Getting Help

When quitting smoking there are various methods to try in achieving your goal.

The cheapest method is will power, and going 'cold turkey'. Obviously this is the hardest method as it means making a clean break and stopping smoking immediately. The nicotine will give you the urge to want another cigarette, but after a few weeks the nicotine wll be out of your system and hopefully you can quit for good. This isn't as easy as it sounds though and many people become depressed, gain weight, become anxious and irritable plus many more things.

People can also quit by using patches which can be attached to the arm. These release nicotine into the system without having to actually have a cigarette and inhale the smoke. Usually when a patch is applied, it helps the smoker more because they don't get the urge to smoke, and if they did it makes them feel ill as they are already getting their fix of nicotine via the patch. Other aids can be things such as chewing gum which contains nicotine, or plastic tubes which mimic the shape of a cigarette. The smoker would then place this to their lips and inhale a special nicotine suplement without the need to inhale smoke.

Another way to quit is to join a stop smoking clinic or stop smoking group. If you can't find one of these, you can go and see your GP who can put you in touch with a group or clinic. The good thing about a group is that there are obviously other people there who are going through the exact same thing. By working together and encouraging each other, many people have been able to quit via this method.
